Problem Solved

November 16, 2007 by Kathryn

I have a problem. Every 10 or 12 years, I prepare and serve a platter of festive deviled eggs. Periodically, I’d say at least one of every two times I make them every 10 or 12 years, one or two of the eggs will roll over, bumping into other eggs and ruining their perfect spacing.

Well, now I’ve found the answer. I can buy and store this gorgeous Christmassy egg tray for 10 or 12 years until I need it to serve nothing but deviled eggs. Hey I bet I could even get one for Kwanza, Flag Day and Diwali.

Okay. Fess up. Do you have one of these? Did you pay actual money for it or did you get married a week after Christmas?

This picture has an illusion to it–the indentions look like bumps. If you hadn’t told me what it was, I would say Mrs, Frosty’s plastic surgery went bad. See, that’s what happens when you don’t check your credentials. That “doctor” she went to was probably just some snow cone vendor in disguise.

I think that Spice Girls used the same guy.

    I meant “that Spice Girl”.

Hmm, I have an egg dish, but not a themed one? Is that just as bad? I mean I can always fall back on that it was my great grandma’s making it an heirloom, and,… hmm, yea it’s still a pretty one-hit wonder dish… sigh.

I have an egg dish (every proper Southern woman does), but it’s not Christmas themed. I do have a chip and dip bowl that’s shaped like a football–and it’s even brown.

Mine is not themed either. Do I get a pass? It works great for stuffed mushrooms as well!

I second Shannon’s point–in the old days every Southern bride received a glass deviled egg dish at her wedding shower.

Mine cracked, so I’ve been using a flat basket lined with leaf lettuce for mine. Somehow the ridges and ruffles hold the eggs in place.

I have had the Arthur Court magnolia egg dish on my inner wish list for a while; it stays cold when removed from the refrigerator.

Nope. I got nada. I’m so backwards that I serve my deviled eggs on a regular plate where they can slide and move as you try to pick one up.

But be honest… This does not surprise you, no?

Hey, it’s not a party unless someone brings deviled eggs! Yum! I have given non-themed egg plates as gifts but don’t actually own one myself. Sniff, sniff.

Okay. That’s kind of a disturbing picture. Snowmen aren’t supposed to be that lumpy. He looks possessed. Or like he’s boiling. Or like something is crawling underneath his skin. *Shudder*

And no, I don’t have a deviled egg platter. I don’t like them (is that blogging suicide to admit I don’t like deviled eggs?).

I am sorry, all I can think of is that devilled eggs on that tray would make it look like little piles of yellow snow all over the snowman…sorry.
I don’t have one. I find that if you just shove them all together on a plate until there is no room they will pretty much stay in place.

My mom has a non-themed glass dish, and my sister has a plastic version. But…someone in the family owns an Easter one (and its not me).

OK, first, I do not own a deviled egg dish. I don’t make them, I don’t eat them, I don’t want to look at them. Second, I CANNOT stop thinking about Arnold Schwarzeneger from Kindergarten Cop saying, “It’s not a tuma.”

I’m always in awe and honestly a little weirded out by people who have specific platters and dishes for very specific food items. Although I do admit it’d be nice to have (aaaand so very classy)when you make Christmas deviled eggs.

I make deviled eggs 3 times a year and I have a deviled egg dish/holder but it’s not themed. It has a tight fitting lid which makes those late night snacking by fridge light a little difficult.

I have a lovely blue dish. I bought it myself. It’s blue because we usually only eat deviled eggs at Easter.

Deviled eggs are evil, EVIL, I tell you! And, if you spell it “deviled”, it comes out as “de viled”. Evil and de viled. Such eggs don’t deserve their own fancy schmancy plate.

My mom has one of those glass decorative plates with “seats” around the edges and then you just fit the rest in the middle circle. Anyway I’m anti purchasing a product I’ll use twice a year or less. I’d rather have them look well egged than store that kind of plate.

..or did you get married a week before Christmas.

    Now that’s funny!

That is CUTE! My kids LOVE deviled eggs. So much so that my 11 year old daughter now makes them for almost every large family occasion. Really. I boil up about a dozen or 18 and then help her peel them, and then she does the rest. She’s a pretty good little deviled egg maker. And eggs are cheap. We do have a cheap little plastic dish that holds 24, but wouldn’t they look much cuter on a little Christmas plate? I guess not.

(sigh) Mine is Tupperware and it’s not nearly so darling.

On the upside, I can use it for Easter.

I was at a bridal shower on Saturday and the bride received one of those. Not the exact one, but a gaudily similar one. I giggled to myself and handed her my present of trashy, but tasteful lingerie.

Poor guy looks like he was on the losing end of a snowball fight. Those are either craters caused by incoming snowballs or empty spaces from which little children stole handfuls of snow to launch at each other. It’s actually quite disturbing.

  25. Kellyn says

I have never seen something like this, but my sister would love it since we have deviled eggs at every holiday. The poor thing looks like he ate to many ping pong balls or something though. It is cute, just a little different.

I have an Easter themed egg plate that I bought myself, on sale, a few years ago. I was finding I WAS making a lot of deviled eggs around Easter, so I thought, why not? But a themed one seems more appropriate for Easter, a day when you end up with a bunch of hard-boiled eggs anyway. Just to be clear, I am a PacNWerner, not Southern.

I’m in tears laughing because I was thinking exactly the same thing as Heffalump!!! And who would go to all the trouble to make deviled eggs and only make 12? Shoot, my kids snag that many while I’m trying to artfully arrange them on the platter!

Just flop a towel over your cookie sheet and plop the eggs on top of the towel. Half an hour in the fridge, and they’re stuck like glue to the towel and they won’t roll anywhere…and they get a neat terrycloth texture on the bottom, too!

Well I got married the week before Christmas but nobody gave me one of those.

Even if I had one I doubt I would ever use it. When I make deviled eggs I make them all for ME and they’re gone in hours!!
