And He Shall Have Bubbles Wherever He Goes

March 17, 2008 by Kathryn

bubble-boy

Magoo is obsessed with bubbles. He is driven to play with them. Whenever he has a hole in his schedule, he slips out on the front porch for a little quality time with his liquid soap, glycerin and a plastic wand. Dan is not nearly as traumatized by the thought of Magoo playing with that kind of wand as he is about him wearing the pink princess pull-ups I snagged on freecycle from a seller who forgot to mention the gender of her recently potty-trained child and whom I forgot to ask.

He brings the bubbles in the van whenever we go out and leaves them in his cup holder until it’s time to get out of the car. Through the Target parking lot, down the sidewalks of the outdoor mall, standing outside of Subway. Everywhere we go he blows the bubbles while I hold onto him by the scruff of his parka.

The bubbles match his personality perfectly, round, happy, bouncy and colorful until suddenly he pops and I throw him in bed.

I am forever entertained by him.

Very sweet. Every time I’ve gotten bubbles for my son, he ends up with the bubble stuff on his chin and all over his arms.
BTW, my son and I have something we do when he gets angry-he blows a bubble–a big, imaginary bubble. Then we pop it. Last night I was getting frustrated with him and he said, I am angry with you, momma. Are you angry with me? I said yes. And I’m a little frustrated with you, too. He said, let’s blow bubbles, okay? So we both blew bubbles. Big ones. Our arms stretched out all the way to show how big they were while we blew and blew. Then we popped them.

Do you make your own bubble mixture? If yes, what’s the recipe?! Thanks!!

That is adorable! I can’t believe how grown up he is getting.

I was going to send him bubbles in his Easter box until I remembered the all-seeing eye of the postmistress…”anything, fragile, liquid, perishable or hazarous ?” So, he got plastic worms instead. Oh, well.

My son has those same shoes!
Is that a spill proof bubble solution holder??? If so, where did you get it?

I love that you’re the kind of mom who just rolls with it and lets him take his bubbles everywhere πŸ™‚

i love the image of magoo blowing bubbles as you walk along together, holding “the scruff of his parka.” and i giggled over his pink princess pull ups! daddies sweat about that stuff more than the kiddos do.

Awwww! I am too adverse to the whole mess factor to let my kids play with bubbles too often. But they are a lot of fun.

I love bubbles too. We’d get along just fine. He is criminally cute.

awe shucks, so precious! M discovered bubbled (the non-bath-time kind) for the first time at his first Nursery on Sunday. Utter bewilderment. Mostly at the herd of toddlers stampeding each other to pop all the bubbles.

My kid is also in love with bubbles. Except that we found it’s more that he wants to dip the stick in the bubble container. So now, to avoid messes, I just give him an empty bubble jar and bubble stick and he’s happy as a clam.

    That’s such a cute picture!
The Boy wore the Girl’s jammies, including a lovely light purple pair and while my husband CLAIMED not to be bothered, I noticed that The Boy was usual whisked out of them before anyone came over. Hmmm..

I especially love that last line: “I am forever entertained by him.” Kids are so amazing, aren’t they? All so unique. I’m glad you find wonder in your children.

Yes – I must know where you got the non-spill bubble container! My kids LOVE bubbles and I suspect would probably be just like Magoo if I let them, but all we have are the regular screw-top containers that the dollar store bubbles come in and I think our record is 43 seconds before my 2yo dumps it all over!

My 4-year-old niece explained to me that fairies live inside bubbles, bubbles are their houses and their mode of transportation, all at the same time. But when you get too close it scares them and *POOF!* they make their bubble-houses dissappear so you can’t see them anymore… if the details of all that seem fuzzy, ask a kidlet, they are so much better at explaining that sort of thing. :o)
