You Gotta Have Teeth

March 28, 2006 by Kathryn

3 teethI received some startling news yesterday. According to our 5-year-old friend Quinn, Magoo is losing all of his teeth. At this point I’m not sure there’s much we can do to save him from a life of eternal denture-hood. From what Quinn can make out, there are only “like 3 LEFT!”

Laylee made a self-serving discovery of her own as we were driving along that afternoon.

Laylee: Mom look! Those clouds look like ice cream.
Me: Yeah, they DO! Good job. What a great imagination.
Laylee: I think we should go get some ice cream right now.
Me: Keep looking at the clouds and maybe tonight we can have some ice cream for family night treats.
Laylee: O KAY!

Hours later it’s family night. We’re all sitting around and Laylee is giving a lesson on the Creation of the world. Dan whispers into her ear and she repeats what he says. When they get to day 5 and Dan realizes Adam and Eve are next on deck, he figures he must have left something out.

Dan: Uh-oh. I think we forgot one of the days. What did we forget?
Laylee: The treats.
Dan: No. We forgot one of the things God created.
Laylee: Maybe it was one of the animal things, like pigs.

That’s IT! On the third day He created ice cream and pigs. I forget that one every time. It always throws me.

Haha! When Katie was a baby and cutting teeth, a friend commented that she wished they were born with teeth so they wouldn’t have to go through that pain. As a breastfeeding mom, I couldn’t bring myself to agree with her. Guess I’m of the “save yourself” mentality too.

As a mom of 4 – one that is due to break teeth anyday as he is 8 mths. now and has lost them all-I am extremly glad ice cream was created to sooth me at the end of a hectic day. My thighs are not so thankful though.

LOL! That reminds me of a time when I was in Wal Mart with my little ones and a man came up to my little girl who had just about 4 teeth at the time and said, “You’re missing some teeth!” It hit me as pretty humorous at the time. Of course, my logical six year old had to tell him, “She’s not missing teeth. She hasn’t even gotten them yet!”

Very cute, pigs and ice cream, I’m glad Noah remembered them in the Ark after they were created!

My babies take forever to get their teeth. My 1yo still hasn’t one tooth. I hope she’ll get one by fall so she can enjoy apple picking time.

Ice cream and pigs. Right, on the third day. I’ve written it down so I can teach my guys.

I love that you have a family night and that your daughter telling the creation story with her dad is part of it.

I just started keeping biblical feast days with my kids last year and I was surprised by how much fun we had and how much we all learned, especially during Sukkot.

And you know, I can just see God sitting there on day five, being like, hmmm…..birds of the air and beasts of the field, check, shoot, forgot the pigs and ice cream.
I’m really intrigued by Laylee “teaching” the lesson — is that something common to all LDS families, or a tradition of yours?

My son has only three teeth, so apparently he must have lost a lot too. And I love ice cream and pigs, especially together. Isn’t that how the world was meant to be?

What a cutie! You have sweet kids! Oh by the way, I put your link on my new blog! Old one was Gigglin’ and Screamin’ but I can’t get into it! So I started a new one that I hope you visit soon! Thanks!

And God resting on the 7th day was just so that He’d have time to eat the ice cream, eh? 🙂

And that picture of Magoo is SOO cute! I came to your blog and just went, “Aaaaawwwww!” for about a minute before I read anything.

Kids say the funniest things. Wait until Layle is 6 like my daughter who takes 45 minutes doing her family night lesson. I think she has written her own book of scripture. Do you know any other LDS bloggers?

Ice Cream and Pigs! We must’ve missed that day too. We read the creation story last night. Baby Girl is very worried about snakes and accidentally eating forbidden fruit!
She was so upset when her brothers had no teeth at birth.
