I wrote a post at Parenting today about how Laylee seems to follow in my footsteps.
Well here’s a big fat peek into the world of Laylee’s mom. That’s me. What kind of a person must I be if my daughter wakes up at the crack of dawn and creates a list of all the things she plans to get done that day? She is five years old. She is neurotic. She is awesome.
She told me what each of the pictographs meant and proceeded to work aggressively to complete all her tasks.
Draw a picture for Ellie. I hope it ended up looking better than that thing.
Play in the Sandbox. She writes this to get past my horrible tyranny. It’s been pouring rain and she’s been begging me to play in the sand/slop box. She thinks I can’t say no if it’s on a “list.” She is wrong.
Watch TV. Our TV isn’t quite that small. Almost, but not quite. And it has way more static.
Pick Flowers. Her favorite activity. Although she’s always surprised and angry when they wither and die 10 minutes later.
Eat Vitamins. The highlight of every day.
Play on the Wii. Oh how I love this little tiny drawing of a wii-mote.
Eat Macaroni for Dinner. I acutally made a quality dinner this night and she was STEAMED! Veggie chilli was not on her list! But then she loved it and this list was forgotten.
Exercise for Three Five Minutes. I love her little exercise pose with the fist up in the air.
Feed the Fish. Notice the tiny drawing of a fish on the fish food container.
Play in the Garden. If only our flowers were actually that big so Laylee would really look like Thumbelina in the garden.

That is quite possibly the cutest list I have ever seen.

This is so cute! You should keep this in a scrapbook and show this to your daughter when she grows up!
I know she’d appreciate that from you. Keeping mementos from the past is something we’d appreciate from our parents.

I think I might curl up and die from the cuteness of this list. That she made a list is incomparably awesome, and that she drew pictures… she is brilliant.

Oh this was definitely my life as a child. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one was was like this.

What organized little spawn you have. I think I love her.
Angela says
Definitely the cutest list ever made.
I love how each item is underlined, thus emphasizing its importance.
She’s really quite an artist too.
Carrie says
Oh, that is the cutest thing ever! I love lists. Sometimes I add things to the list that I’ve already done, just so I can go cross it off.
(scurrying off to make a to-do list for the day)

So unbelievably cute! She really is a great artist! I was really impressed by the fish drawing. But, I have to say that I loved the Wii remote!!!

A girl after my own heart!!!

That is the most awesome list ever! What a wonderful daughter you have!
On a completely unrelated and very belated note, it was great meeting you the other day and look forward to seeing you again!

That is so cute! M is a list fanatic too but she usually asks me how to spell every word she wants to write ro makes her list scribbles. The pictures are quite genius!

Oh my goodness, yet another generation to carry on in our somewhat CDO (obsessive compulsive disorder, in alphabetical order – – – which is “the right and proper way to do things”) footsteps. I love it! And the pictures were adorable!
Heather from One Woman's World says
Oh my goodness I love that kid. That is the funniest cutest thing ever! manohmanohmanohman!
Rebecca says
I think the reminder to draw for Ellie looks like a sad ghost. And how funny! I did a post of the Baby’s drawings yesterday, too. It must have been Kid’s Art Day.
Margaret says
Maybe if I did MY list in pictures I would get the tasks done.
genny says
I’m a huge list person. I’m impressed!
Janel says
Maybe you can teach this budding little artist/organizer to add a picture of a clock to her “list of things to do” in order to help get everyone out the door earlier? I loved your post at Parenting. I can relate to every part–except, unfortunately, the regular exercising. Any clues on how to make great veggie chili that the kiddos love, by the way?
mother of the wild boys says
She’s seriously the best 5 year old artist that I’ve ever seen! And, I think that I might actually get some things done if my to-do list was drawn so cutely. 🙂 I loved the Wii remote too. 😆
mother of the wild boys says
PS- grammyeln is cracking me up with the CDO!
Lori says
Darling! But did she complete the list? And thank her for the suggestion of doing a pictorial to-do list! Written words are so overrated sometimes.
Emilee says
That is so adorable–and so You! I love the fish and the food.
Maybe I need a pictorial list to make my life more fun. Thanks for the advice Laylee 🙂

I found you again! I remember it was 2005 when I started reading DYM. It’s funny that a Mormon guy is reading blogs of a young couple then, but well, I’m married now, and just over a month ago, my wife bore a healthy beautiful baby girl named Heavenne. We are managing a blog at http://jbsolis.blogspot.com and been in Mormon Archipelago, LDS Blogs, and other major LDS Aggregators. I thank you for inspiring me and would like you to know my wife will be glowing on your entries soon. hehe.
We are actually based in Saudi Arabia since I am working here. Keep doing great. By the way, Im linking your site to mine.
We have lovable dog screensaver that is being given away today as we do give freebie every Monday.

That is such a great list! Maybe if we all made our to-do lists as cute as that, we’d get our stuff done.
Shalee says
That is a keeper for the memory box. Mainly when she rejects the food you make later. You can show her what an awesome chef you are to get her back on track.
I need a to do list like that. Mine would have a big pillow on it though. I really need a nap!
Becky says
Oh my gosh! How sweet! You definitely have to hang on to this! I think the wiimote was my favorite. 🙂
My younger sister did an ABCs book of the titanic and our family still brings it out on special occasions to get a good laugh in.

Oh my! This is all so freaking awesome I can’t believe it!
I love it.
Check on the chicken nuggets, right?
(BTW, if my son were ever so cool as to make a list like this there would be a bottle of ketchup the size of the chicken nugget bowl. Because ketchup is a food on its own.)
Take care!
Proud Daughter of Eve says
*lol* That is the cutest thing ever!

It is so fun to really look and listen to what all that drawing is all about. I get my biggest giggles from that, and I’m amazed at what I learn about my kids!

This is so weird, my son told me last night in the tub that he couldn’t get out yet because he had “a job” and had to follow his “list”. First he had to finish working at his job (which was filling an empty bubble bath bottle with water, using a boat, then pour the water from the bubble bath bottle into a watering can, and then pouring that back into the tub.
He said then his list said he needed to wash his hair, then get out and go to sleep, then read a book. We added brush his teeth, also.
Once we got to his room, he informed me his list said to clean his room up, too, and listen to the House Fairy CD.
It was so funny, I hadn’t said a word about lists lately! And right after I’d read about your daughter’s list!
He’s a Virgo, so I’d expected it at some point…

Okay, what the heck? Is this real?! 🙂 A pictograph list! Brilliant!
