Tip Tuesday — What Tip Tuesday?

July 18, 2006 by Kathryn

playdohIt would appear that Laylee has started a blog without telling me. And her subject matter makes mine look like the slow bus of bloggage.

“Mom, I want to blog my Pla-to.”

Oh, really? He’s good, but I prefer Nietzsche.

Today for Tip Tuesday, I’m asking for some creative topics for future Tip Tuesdays. They don’t have to be philosophic masterpiece-type ideas – just things we all have burning questions about.

    Chicken or the egg?

    Curly or Shep?

    David Lee Roth or Sammy?

Truly the great mysteries of life…

Don’t forget, “why does chewing gum lose its flavor?”

David Lee Roth, of course. (shaking head in disbelief)

I can’t think of any tips either. Maybe a good tip to write about would be “how to command your creativity when you’re coming up empty.”

Awhile ago you asked me to remind you to have a tip day about how to make your home kid-friendly while not losing adult space (i.e., how to organize and store toys – I would add prferably out of sight), so consider yourself reminded 🙂

I posted about this on March 22nd (What do you do when they start to take over) if you need more of a refresher. I did!

What do you do to entertain your kids when they are too-sick-to-go-outside but not-sick-enough-to-lie-passively on-the-couch? Or when one is sick and the other is bored silly?

What are some alternatives to TV-watching for little kids (under three) when Mommy is too sick to do anything but lie on the couch?

Golly, do I have sickness on my mind? Yes, yes I do.

games for a mom with a four year old and very small amounts of space to work with.

Playdate ideas (I’m heading up a midweek group of moms and toddlers).

foods kids like that are also healthy.

the list is endless but I’ll end there.

How do you realistically work in work-out time when you have a passle of young kids?

How to survive a trip to the grocery store with a passle of young kids? (without losing your mind)

OK, this isn’t a suggestion, just a tip for Tuesday. When you cook your lovely crock pot meal of roast with carrots and potatos (since it’s WAY to hot to cook anything in the oven), make sure to move the Kleenex box AWAY from the crock pot. The crock pot tends to spit and sputter a bit, and now I have Kleenex that fills my nose with the appetizing smell of onions every time I blow my nose.

how to do the things we know we should do when we are doing the things we know we shouldn’t do like leaving comments on a blog when you can hear your kids tearing up the house downstairs. Hypothetically speaking of course.

How to keep in touch with far away friends.

How to get the marks off the wall that start about waist high and ooze down to the floor. Or cleaning ooze in general.

How to make Sunday a day of Rest, instead of the longest no husband, no nap, bad haired, cranky child filled marathon that it currently is.

I currently have a horrendous sugar ant problem. So…

“How to get rid of house pets such as: ants, spiders, bees, mice, etc.”

Something we all like to pretend doesn’t exist, I know, but maybe someone else out there lives in an older home with some very present problems?

What to feed toddlers that are just getting off the bottle. Healthy finger foods (enough of the goldfish!), etc.

Hey there! I recently heard someone teaching a class on the importance of keeping journals and histories of your family and times (good job, ladies, on keeping your online journals/blogs here!) She said that one of the most interesting journal entries that she had read of her ancesters, had to do with what home remedies/plants/products/proceedures they used when people had an ailment back before they had antibiotics, Merk, and Pfizer. If you ever get around to it, that would be interesting to hear if anyone still remembers what the heck they did and used for different conditions. 🙂

Also, hope you don’t think this is too base, but I had a nephew who was asking his mom about what to do for constipated toddlers whilst he was feeding his toddler a banana! In case anyone doesn’t already know, bananas are the most constipating food on the face of the planet! Don’t know if anyone out there could use a little help with that???? 🙂 Anyway, the reason I thought that might be helpful is that there are basically only three things you have to know if you have an infant/young toddler, and they include checking to see if they are hungry, tired, or need to “use the bathroom” (poop in the diaper). If all of those things are OK, pretty much everything else goes well. So…how about a little digestive tip day? Mwahh ha ha!

I just saw “CARS”, and maybe it would be fun to hear about people’s personal experiences with their own form of “tractor tipping”. The fun practical jokes they’ve played–nothing mean or inappropriate, of course. You have some pretty fun and funny readers out there, ya know!
