They Weren’t Stale Yet

October 9, 2006 by Kathryn

Dan’s family left us this morning while I slept. I miss them already. The 3 day visit seemed too short and disorganized. We didn’t plan ahead what we would do or talk to them about their expectations for the trip. So when it came time to go do something, we’d sit around like the vultures in Jungle Book asking each other what we wanted to do until the sun went down and then we’d hang out some more, eat some food and stay up way too late.

It was a fun and informative visit. My sister-in-law, a financial coach, got us pumped to take over the world through strategic planning and mission statements. We are excited to let our money “work for us.”

With the help of some aunts, Magoo learned to say “poo” and Laylee can now say “I am terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought.” I guess it’s a quote from Ghostbusters.

They also gave Laylee her first gumball,

The other day I was struck by the urge to see Ghostbusters. But I am very afraid that it will be even dumber than I recall!

    Mary-
It will be even dumber than you recall. My DH and I watched it recently and agreed.

    Daring One-
Maybe I should blog more about the ‘joys’ of having all our family within a 10-minute drive from here to make you feel better about having ‘quality’ visits with yours. (I know it’s hard, I’m just trying to joke about it, as usual.)

That third picture is just too much.

Ah, I know that feeling well. I’m glad it was a nice visit while it lasted.

I can’t believe Laylee fit that whole thing in her mouth! And there’s nothing like family for teaching your kids new and inappropriate things to say. I remember teaching my 3 yr old sister (when I was in high school) to ‘shake her booty’.

It is a bummer to be far away from family.

I can’t believe she hadn’t had a gumball yet, I hope she enjoyed it.
As for family, it’s tough to be away. But often times it makes the time we get to be with them more enjoyable and we appreciate it more.

I totally understand, as we don’t live near our family either. I wish for instant travel all the time 🙂 How nice it would be to walk across the street to my mom’s or even drive across town.

I am so lucky that I have an Aunt and Uncle close…they moved to the same town at almost the same time as us.

But still everytime someone asks me how I like it here I always say how much I like it, and in my head I’m adding, now if we could just get rid of the 2/3rds of the country between here and home it would be perfect.

We’ve been singing the “we don’t have family close by” blues for years now. I hear you. Love the gumball pictures. 🙂

Someone in Dan’s family REALLY loves Ghostbusters a lot to not only have it memorized, but to be able to coach a 3-year-old to say such a complicated line…

There’s a feel of adventure in living far from family, but we miss them too and every time we visit, we come away feeling bue for living on the other side of the country. And then we get our credit card bill for the plane tickets and we really feel sad!

I love the gumball pictures, so funny!

Oh, that last picture of Laylee with her gumball is ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS.

I’m glad you had a good family visit. I truely understand what it is to not live near family, and it is big and stinky.

It must be hard to be away from your family. Know that they are in your heart.

    Great photos.

I love that Laylee is out and about in her princess dress. Work it, little girlfriend.

I look at Laylee in her dressups, I love that you let her do her own thing. Sorry about the derth of family around ya… it’s hard to do.

Very familiar with that kind of sadness.

I must say that Laylee is just too adorable!

I really thought that line was from The Emperor’s New Groove. Or at least it has a similar line, ya know, about Yzma? “Scary beyond all reason” or something like that.

And I haven’t watched the good ol’ GB in a while. The last time I watched it I was repulsed by Sigourney in scanty clothing and a big dog alien thing doing something disgusting. Or maybe just BEING disgusting. Whatever. *shudder*
