I am NOT the chill spouse either. In fact I often deal with anxiety. Last night I was awake for a half hour worrying about girls camp. The camp isn’t for another two months. Thankfully my husband is very chill for which I will be forever grateful he deigned to marry me.

I’m usually the one to freak out about the smaller, less-important-in-the-big-picture things, and my husband is in general more likely to be the less calm one when the big things happen. Although in this case I think missing the flight would be considered one of those big things that he would be most upset about.

Generally I find that it’s easier for me to be calm when he’s the one stressing out first, because I feel like it’s more important for me to be clear-minded and comforting than to be freaking out as well. If I was alone, without my husband there freaking out first, I’m sure I would be the one freaking out. It’s nice to have a spouse who knows when to balance the other out when things go wrong and one starts to lose it.

I just read your post about air travel with kids over at parenting. Tomorrow morning I embark with my two girls on a cross country flight – sans husband. Thanks to some wise women I have already been warned about most of what you had to say (for which I’m grateful, otherwise I would be panicking right about now). Thanks for helping me feel that I am the most prepared I possibly could be. I just pray they are having a good day.

I miss your blog, but understand you are busy.

Yeah I am definitely the more anxious spouse. Sometimes I don’t even realize how uptight I’m being until my husband steps in. He is SO calming. It’s amazing. So happy to have found someone like this. I can’t imagine being in a relationship where you were both highstrung. How do those people chill out?
