I Shouldn’t Compare

October 1, 2009 by Kathryn

I’ve only had 2 daughters for a couple of weeks but I’m already comparing them to each other. I need to remember to look at them as individual young ladies with their own gifts and talents but it’s so hard not to compare.

The main problem I’m having is that Wanda is pathetically incapable of belching. We have to work so hard to get her to do even the smallest burp. Laylee on the other hand could belch all day long if she wanted to and sometimes does.

In the past I’ve pleaded with her to stop this but now that we’re trying to keep Wanda’s tummy troubles under control, belching has become a primo skill to be coveted and respected. Maybe Laylee could take some time and do a little tutorial for her when she gets home from school.

I’m so happy that everything went well with Wanda’s birth & I’m praying she’ll get the belching thing down pat very, very soon. BabyGirl was a horrible burper & her sister followed suit. That wasn’t fun, but may have been the only thing they ever had in common! It still amazes me that I have 4 children who are so incredibly different from each other. They all came from the same sources, shouldn’t they be little carbon copies of each other?

Congrats!! (from one who’s been lurking in the land of feeds for the past few months…sorry)

Ahh, nephew 4 of 5 was a horrible belcher. We took to sitting him upright, one hand holding his head and the other his tummy and rocked him forward and back forward and back until he belched. Even today when he has trouble with his tummy, he will rock himself ( he is 17 now)

    Good luck with her.

Poor little Wanda (and poor mama, too.) I hope her tummy troubles go away and she gets that belching thing figured out!

My 3 girls have three very distinct and unique personalities. My oldest was always happiest when creating with crayons or Legos, so when #2 came along and wanted to change her clothes all day long and started carrying a purse before she could walk (I kid you not) I had no idea what to do with her! But (and one day she’ll hate me for sharing this on the internet) my girly-girl middle child is the one with the most impressive, and most frequent, belch.

Try doing the “Wheels on the bus” and churning those little legs, it really helps with the tummy.

Of course you should compare your daughters, how else will you know which one you like best?

Try Mylanta if your ped will go for it. It worked wonders for us, 2 mils in a dropper. Hang in there, it’s so hard when they can’t burp.

As a grown woman who cannot burp, I feel her pain (and yours). Who knew I would covet such a disgusting habit? 🙂

I can’t burp either, and it sucks. Hopefully she’ll figure it out soon. Sketchy’s “wheels on the bus” comment sounds promising – maybe I should try that myself … 😉
