We say a little prayer before we read scriptures each night. Usually Dan or I say it because it’s a special short little prayer, just inviting the Spirit to be there and giving thanks for what we’re about to read.
Tonight Magoo insisted on saying the scripture prayer. I let him. Here is an exact transcription of that prayer:
“Dear Hebenly Father. We thank thee for the scritchers and we thank thee for the slugs because they are SO nice to us. Jesus Christ. Amen.”
Now I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty sure God enjoyed that prayer almost as much as I did.
And Magoo’s right. They ARE so nice. Let’s praise and be glad of heart for slugs this Easter season.

Yuck! Yuck! OH, Yuck! Nothing is so disgusting as SLUGS, but God MUST bless them because very few of we humans try to help them at all. (This is one compassionate feeling that I hope he grows out of.)

I wish there were a blog where everyone could just post their children’s prayers. They are AWESOME.

Sometimes it’s so hard not to laugh! Yes, God bless the slugs. The rest of us are cursing their existence.
My oldest used to begin her prayers with “Our kinda graceful Heavenly Father”. I’m positive God has a sense of humor.

Maybe slugs are so nice because they don’t bite?

Make sure that next time, he remembers the Colorado beetles, the Japanese beetles, aphids, and every other pest that drives gardeners and farmers crazy… After all SOMEBODY should appreciate them, since we rational adults just wish they were all dead.

Well at least he clearly articulates his prayers. Harry has been wanting to say his own but all we hear is Heavenly Father mumble, mumble, mumble Amen. For all I know he could be saying some dang cute stuff but I can’t understand what he is praying for.
Wendy says
sure, he says bless them until he plants a seed and the slugs EAT ANY LITTLE GREEN SPROUTS! then, he may say to do something with the slugs…. that’s where I am with slugs. “bless” is the not verb I’d use.

How funny. Yes, I can see how slugs can be nice – or, at least, lacking in mean. After all, how many slugs have raised armies against people? And I, for one, have never been bitten or even pinched by one. So, yes, nice is right. 🙂

Awww…that makes me want to (gently) pinch his cute little cheeks!

I think God likes when we appreciate parts of his creation that most others overlook and yuck at. It’s always so much fun to hear what goes on in the head of a little person!

That’s one thing we don’t miss having moved from Oregon to Texas – the slugs. Seriously, I haven’t seen one in almost a year and a half! Roaches, on the other hand….(shudder).

Hi DYM!
Thanks for posting this ABSOLUTELY CUTE story about the slugs! It is unspeakably encouraging to read your blogs on Parenting.com, where there’s a Christian light in the darkness! 🙂 I enjoy your blogs for their sane way of living life and including God, not just as a spectator, but as a NECESSARY part of parenting and family life.
With so much appreciation,
Happy Easter! 🙂
