In Mourning

February 11, 2009 by Kathryn

I’ve been struggling with a stomach bug this past week and recently its friend the head and chest cold came to join the party so I pretty much feel like pathetic death on toast.

But worse than that, my laptop experienced a hardware failure and has been gutted and shipped off to the computer hospital for emergency surgery. I weep for it. I crave it’s closeness. I find myself in mourning.

Out of respect for my injured friend and due to the earth-shattering plague rocking my body systems, I may not be blogging for a while. But like the terminator I will be back eventually and for the time being I’ll blog at least once a week over at parenting with a link here to my musings.

Today I wrote about time. Laylee’s recently learned how to tell time and our lives will never be the same again. [click to read more at Parenting]

When we put my laptop, let’s call him Timmy, to rest in his Fedex casket, we needed to trim some of the shipping materials for a better fit. Magoo took the leftover pieces and fashioned them into some sort of weapon laser thing. When he was done with it, he left it on my bathroom vanity. Do you think it’s a sign? Because it’s sort of creeping me out.

It looks like it has eyes and is staring at you. It also looks like a tombstone. I hope your laptop recovers!

That looks like a giant PLUS sign to me. Is there something else you’d like to tell us, Kathryn?? 😉

I was just wondering if that was your Neti Pot? Pulled it out for the head cold, eh?

    I’m so sorry!

I wish you a speedy recovery, and a nice bloggy break and a fully recovered body and laptop in all good time. Good luck!

Feel better soon, and have a nice and recovering sort of break from sharing your wonderful world with us. We’ll be waiting!

Since it’s still February — season of Chinese New Year — think Chinese and consider the styrofoam sign by your sink to be the Chinese symbol for BIG, as in, you are the BIG CHEESE at your house. Well, you are, aren’t you? Buck up, my dear, at least it’s your computer that’s been shipped off to the electronic booby hatch and not YOU! Things could be much, much, much, much worse! Oh, believe me, they really, really could! I’ve been there and they were much, much, much, MUCH worse! So, go and have a little ginger tea with some honey in it, have a nice little cry over in the rocking chair in the corner, cuddle your lovey, and eat some ice cream. Things will be rosy and your computer will be back before you know it. Now, kiss kiss, hug hug. Don’t you feel mothered?

Looks like a plus sign to me. He’s a budding mathematician, for sure. Next it will be square-root signs in the living room, and pi on the table.

    K –

    You poor thing!
    Stomach bug
    AND
    a chest + head cold
    AND
    Timmy codes?
    It’s too much!
    Too much I tell you!

Rest + get better + await Timmy’s return.

I’m off to read about L learning how to tell time.
I’m sure that even sick you are a stellar writer.

I feel your pain. I was sick with a stomach bug last weekend, and it took all week to feel like a person again, and now I have the cousin the cold as a parting gift. I hope you recover soon and that your beloved laptop also feels better soon.

My laptop was injured for a long time, too, and I had to use our PC! (Gasp! I know…)

    I feel your pain.

No way!!! I had to send my shiny new laptop in for service this week, too. Yours must be bigger b/c I didn’t get to keep TWO pieces of foam as souvenirs. (Dude, it is SO HARD to spell souvenirs. Took me like six tries!)

Anyway, I’m stuck with my old, sad, slow, 2004 laptop. I can’t believe this thing actually was my only computer less than three months ago. Sigh.

Our hearts will go on. Even if our noses and digestive systems are virus ridden and our access to the internets, spotty.

I am so feeling bonded to you right now, soul sister.
