This lovely day we head outside to play
Our yard is not the flattest one around
Rain water’s always getting in the way
It maketh puddles in which fun is found
Laylee pours mud all over on her head
Her brother joins the fun with shovel splash
He only follows her where he is led
But when he does her eyes with anger flash
A speck of mud administered from him
Is like a drop of acid burning deep
She must punish him for his thoughtless whim
With thrashing blows, she douses him and weeps
Poor little buddy doesn’t stand a chance
And heartless mom exploits his circumstance

He’s not a happy camper. But it is kinda funny.

Soo sad. (But the pictures were priceless. I seem to remember taking one of you at that age with a potty seat ring stuck around your neck. We are shameless – both of us, but it certainly makes a great pictoral essay.)
Knowing the two of them, I’m pretty certain the loving will follow almost immediately, so I’m not too worried.

How funny is that! Not to them at this point, I’m sure. But one day far, far away, when they are all grown up those pictures will surely make them laugh out loud. Just like they made me laugh out loud sitting at my desk on a rainy Wednesday morning. What a great mom you are to let them play in the puddles and the mud. Nothing soap and water won’t fix!

The laughs they’ll get over the pictures years down the road makes it worth the slight delay in maternal sympathy. =)

You know, I am the same way! I love taking pictures of the kids when they are a mess. Or crying. Or bleeding. Or fighting with their brother. Or picking their nose! I can’t wait to flash those shots on the big screen slide show at their wedding!
Regina Clare Jane says
Oh my goodness… mud really doesn’t taste that good, does it?
