Archives for August 2006

One Year Ago Yesterday

August 31, 2006 by Kathryn

I clicked “post” for the first time over at daringyoungmom.blogspot.com. In honor of that momentous occasion, I will publish this post one year and one day later and the stars will align and the 8 remaining planets will hum peacefully in their orbits.  It was 2:01pm August 30th and I wrote about milk.

The following is a list of some memorable posts from each of my 12 months of blogging:…

It’s Hard Out Here for a Perfectionist – Who’s Not

August 30, 2006 by Kathryn

So I’m new here, in this town, where I live. You know? The move and such? Many of my good friends have moved out of state recently or just gotten lives or something. I’m starting to make new friends slowly. I’ve met some amazing people whom I’m getting closer to, but friendship is largely proportional to time served….

They Ate Bambi’s Mom

August 29, 2006 by Kathryn

And now I’m wishing a big hole would open up and swallow Laylee’s.

Me and my big mouth.

She did this to me, you know? With the questioning. Why? Why? Why?

I broke down. I did and there’s really no use placing blame….

Tip Tuesday — Summer Lovin’

August 29, 2006 by Kathryn

More than friends?Dan and I are rounding out 5 years of wedded bliss, and wedded bliss it has been, lassies. I love him dearly. Every once in a while I like to look back and remember our first kiss, a kiss which I will describe for you now….

Woman Troubles — A Tree Grows in Brooklyn Chapters 27-37

August 28, 2006 by Kathryn

(My latest is up at Parenting.com)

This section of the book was painful for me to read. It sets in motion Francie’s adolescence, a time full of pain, heartbreak and harsh realizations about the cruel world. No longer can she look upon the family’s frequent bouts of starvation as a game. Gone is her unquestioning faith in God. She finds herself doubting that any woman can truly be good or kind….

BlogHer — Not a Social Club

August 25, 2006 by Kathryn

Why did I go to BlogHer?

Here’s part of the essay I wrote to the mommybloggers, applying for their scholarship, without which I would not have been able to attend:…

Farmer Wars — The Wal Mart Conundrum

August 24, 2006 by Kathryn

Health, quality, ethics and affordability.

Yum! Don't you just wanna eat 'em up?Lately we’ve been big on produce at the Daring household to the tune of about 8 lbs lost and increased regularity amongst the preschool faction.  We’re liking this change so well, that we’ve decided to branch out from our normal produce buying habits….

Queen Cars and Bikers — Moto-racial Profiling

August 22, 2006 by Kathryn

Since watching the movie Cars, and I use the word “watching” loosely here to mean having your parents pay $5 to get you into a matinee so you can rotate between the theatre and the restroom like a pinball and accidentally bonk into your brother multiple times as you hop from seat to seat while the movie is playing, Laylee has been obsessed with red cars….

Dementia, Pregnancy, or the Brain-Zapping Plague From the Planet Arous

August 21, 2006 by Kathryn

I may just have to WebMD myself… and I hate to do that. I really do. That site is guaranteed to turn even the toughest I-refuse-to-go-to-the-doctor-because-I-bike-all-day-and-drink-protein-shakes-every-meal manly man into a raving hypochondriac.

I can diagnose myself with the most atrocious diseases based on symptoms like the ones my entire family is having today:

Meta and Mumps

August 21, 2006 by Kathryn

Meta – Sorry about the confusion with new comments. I set things up so that the first time you make a comment, I have to approve it. That should keep the spammers out since I will never approve them and regular commenters will only have to be moderated once.

Mumps – If, like me, you laugh out loud when you read The Daily Mumps, you may just feel an inward chuckle with my mad photo-captioning skills over at Parenting.com today.
